The second in a series of three compilations of short creative Scottish videos, originally prepared for broadcast on Berlin's Offener Kanal cable channel in 1994.
The first item, Pikisaari - The Church, is a short silent 3D video animation of a design for a building stretching out over the sea. This is followed by a skilfully blended sequence of video and still pictures and video animation combining images including flowing water, clouds, Renaissance art and religious imagery in a dreamlike sequence set to synthesised music.
The third piece is a short animated film by John Guthrie, from a story by Ina Houston, which appears to be about the love between two chickens working in an accountants office, which leads, almost inevitably, to the punchline “Don’t count your chickens before they’re hatched”.
A further untitled piece of video art consists of a sequence of attractive video images of the natural world with an emphasis on a strong horizontal division between the upper and lower halves of the frame. Hence coastlines and the horizon feature prominently.
The fifth short item in the compilation uses footage of chickens being fed to emphasise the Scottish Gaelic phrase “Tha an t’acras orm!” (I’m hungry). One of the chickens lays a golden egg, which turns out to be useless for making scones. It is a combination of live action and animated video that presumably is intended to encourage use of the Gaelic language.
‘Weightless Fall’ is Lucinda Goad’s short but visually stunning video built from animated drawings of dancer Roxana Meechan performing to music by Jan Gabarek.
Finally, a further piece of untitled video art uses a peacock theme in rapidly mixed and edited montages, reminiscent of 1960’s ‘psychedelic’ projections, accompanied by strongly rhythmic music track. This video recording lasts 30 minutes and 10 seconds.
