Berlin Tapes (1 of 3)

The first in a series of three compilations of short Scottish videos, originally prepared for broadcast on Berlin's Offener Kanal cable channel in 1994.

The first item ‘We Want Love’ consists of some four minutes of rapidly edited video and still images and animations set to music from Jorn Bilse. The video has a recurrent theme of South African apartheid.

The second item is an atmospheric music video of a stage performance of ‘Crawl’ by The Handsome Devils.

The majority of the programme is occupied by a darkly funny story of a struggling avant-garde rock band selling their soul to the devil. Filmed in black and white, The Evanescent Herb Garden of Death features dark angels and the Grim Reaper.

Please note that The Evanescent Herb Garden of Death Strong features some strong language and suggests an attempted assisted suicide by fire using petrol, which might be inappropriate for children of an impressionable age. This video recording lasts 28 minutes and 16 seconds.
