Art in Scotland - David Connearn and Tim Hodgkinson

An edition of Channel 6 Broadcasting’s TV show Art in Scotland, featuring David Connearn and Tim Hodgkinson talking about their collaboration on ‘Apophasis’.

The artists explain the word ‘Apophasis’ as referring to things which are beyond the sphere of representation, and in this case the drawing made by David Connearn has since been erased and all that remains is a piece of music created by Tim Hodgkinson from recordings of the sounds produced in making the work.

The work, described as “not a drawing but an environment” was inspired by a strange batch of pencil leads that emitted a dense squeaky sound. Hodgkinson took the recordings and created the finished work by slowing them down and combining them.

The two artists discuss artistic collaboration in front of a large, blank, white canvas which presumably once held the drawing. This video recording lasts 9 minutes and 22 seconds.
