In an edition of the TV series ‘Art in Scotland’, Dave Rushton interviews artist Will Maclean at Dundee Contemporary Arts and pantomime writer Stuart Paterson at Dundee Rep. during the dress rehearsal for his Puss in Boots.
Will Maclean’s exhibition was entitled ‘Driftworks’ and was a collection of his work drawn mainly from the previous two years. Using a range of media and objects he evokes coastal cultures from around the world. Many of the pieces have a narrative quality drawing on the history of the Highland clearances and other aspects of Scottish social history.
In the second part of the programme Stuart Paterson tells Dave Rushton that his version of ‘Puss in Boots’ relies on the traditional magic which is essentially a part of these great fairy tales. He describes how he tries to make the story work for audiences of all ages. This video recording lasts 6 minutes and 21 seconds.
