An edition of the TV series ‘Art in Scotland’ featuring ‘Glassbox’ at the Collective Gallery, Richard Calvocoresi on Paul Klee and Steve Hollingsworth at the Fruitmarket Gallery.
‘Glassbox’ is a collective of artists operating an independent art space in Paris. When they were invited to the Collective Gallery they decided to recreate their Paris space within the Edinburgh gallery. During the interview with two representatives of Glassbox we see a creatively shot video of the construction of their area. Explaining why they did not bring any work by French artists they describe the show as a conceptual project in which they invited young Scottish artists to show their works within their installation, thus reversing the usual roles.
Richard Calvocoresi narrates a short film showing some of Paul Klee’s work to coincide with the show ‘The Private Klee’ at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art. Calvocoresi describes the Swiss expressionist painter’s very individual work, his exile from Nazi Germany and his impact on contemporary art.
In the final segment of the programme, artist Steve Hollingsworth describes his show at the Fruitmarket Gallery. Filmed in front of his exhibition he says is particularly interested in furniture, travel and the use of colour and explains the ideas behind some of the works. This video recording lasts 23 minutes and 5 seconds.
