An edition of the TV series ‘Art in Scotland' featuring paintings by Sigmar Polke at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art and Jeff Koons exhibition at Edinburgh’s Fruitmarket Gallery.
Phil Long, curator of the exhibition at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, describes Sigmar Polke as one of the most influential artists from the 1960s to the present day. Polke was originally from Poland but studied in Germany and first became recognised in the 1960s. He is often linked with pop art but Long insists the artist’s work is distinctive in several important respects.
The short feature is illustrated with many brief shots of his extraordinary range of different types and styles of painting, all described as exhibiting a random, spontaneous and humorous approach.
Later in the same programme Robert Morgan talks with artist Jeff Koons, who was opening his exhibition at Edinburgh’s Fruitmarket Gallery. Standing in front of one of his big and brash canvasses Jeff Koons analyses the content of his own paintings and the programme features detail from a couple of them. This video recording lasts 10 minutes and 56 seconds.
