This film is a special edition of Art in Scotland entirely devoted to Marcus McDermott’s film ‘Found’, inspired and influenced by a lost-wax sculpture by John Dominic Fox.
The programme does not include information about the artist or the sculpture. Using video effects, rapid editing, split screens and appropriately chosen music, the film is more video art than documentary as it chronicles the construction of the sculpture of the Hindu goddess Durga Mahisasuramardini slaying the mythical Buffalo Demon.
A series of sped-up and quickly cut views of the workshop as the piece is cast and assembled, followed by shots of the finished object from a restless rapidly moving camera, all delivered without narration or speech of any kind, give the film an intriguing edge. This video recording lasts 11 minutes and 8 seconds.
