Getting Noticed
‘Getting Noticed’ is a website project run by the National Disability Arts Forum. The target for the Getting Noticed project is young disabled people, between the ages of 14-19 years old, with the aim of encouraging and supporting disabled people in getting involved in arts activities. Everyone involved in the project, including its creators, is disabled. The website acts as an introduction to ‘the world of Disability Arts’, covering all aspects of the arts including actors, musicians, painters, photographers, singers, dancers, comedians, poets, writers, TV presenters, cartoonists and many more, both amateur and professional. The website is very simple yet with a bold design, making it easy and attractive to use. It is a very useful resource to both young people and for teachers; available is an Educational Resource Pack to show pupils ways of discussing different aspects of this project. The project is aimed to be useful for all pupils and students regardless of age, access needs and interests. The pack is downloadable from the website as an Adobe Acrobat document. The site also offers an easily searchable database of disability arts organisations and artists – under ‘arts opportunities search’. This is searchable by region, regional arts boards or types of organisations (e.g. film, ceramics, photography etc.) Other features on the website include pictures and information about past and current exhibitions & projects. There is also a webpage of media including the work of professional disabled artists and performers.
