A Trip to the Pantomime by Rail |
|
| An audio reading of a first-hand account of a 1938 trip from Anstruther to Edinburgh to see the pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk. Evoking the relative luxury of the railway carriages the reading focuses on the arrangements for a journey that was the high spot of the year. An interesting exploration of the relationship of the inhabitants of East Fife to Edinburgh in pre-war Scotland and the effect of the railway in bringing them closer together. Simply produced in an attractive local accent, could provide useful material for discussion and a starting point for further work. The programme lasts for 9 minutes and 39 seconds. |
