A video edition of Channel 6 Broadcasting’s ‘The Art Show’ featuring an exhibition of paintings by Sigmar Polke at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.
Phil Long, Curator of the exhibition, describes Polke as one of the most influential artists from the 1960s to the present day. Polke was originally from Poland but studied in Germany and first became recognised in the 1960s. He is often linked with pop art but Phil Long insists the artist’s work is distinctive in several important respects.
The short programme is illustrated with many brief shots of his extraordinary range of different types and styles of painting, all described as exhibiting a random, spontaneous and humorous approach. This video programme lasts 7 minutes and 31 seconds.
