Introduction to Radio Production

This internet site offers three online training modules relating to radio production. The three modules are: Recording and Microphones, The Studio and Digital Editing.

Each module takes the user through a number of stages relating to each process, explaining the technical terms and what equipment may be necessary. Aimed at people of any age with little or no experience, the modules are very user-friendly, providing easy explanatory diagrams and using images and ‘quiz questions’ for each stage which the user must click on the correct option before being allowed to progress.

‘Recording and Microphones’ covers: the difference between analogue and digital, recording devices, connecting these up and setting levels, monitoring recording, the difference between mono and stereo, microphone types, positioning and more. ‘The Studio’ covers soundproofing, mixing, channels and playback whilst ‘Digital Editing’ covers connecting up, transferring, basic editing and effects.

As well as being for beginners, the modules are also a good reminder for those more experienced. The modules use Real Player to provide relevant sound clips throughout, which is easily downloadable from the main menu.
