Sonic Mapping : The Line of Life - Snowstar (3 of 8) |

| This audio piece is the third of eight tracks which make up “Sonic Mapping: The Line of Life”; a series of musical compositions taking inspiration from the coastal town of Ramsgate in Kent, created during the residency of sound artist Robert Jarvis at the Artwise Youth Arts Centre in Ramsgate. The title “The Line of Life” is an urban planning term coined to express the dynamic place where earth, sky and sea meet - the shoreline. The pieces made within this project not only take their inspiration from the area of Ramsgate but are also entirely composed of the key sounds that make the featured locations unique; illustrative of many British coastal and seaside areas. All of the tracks were created using computer music programs which are free via the internet and the project aimed to encourage the young people involved to think about their surroundings, as well as looking at new and different ways to approach the use of music. This piece “Snowstar” is inspired by the marina area and the boats there. The rest of the pieces within the “Sonic Mapping” project can also be found on The Showcase. There are also a few short video clips available on The Showcase which help illustrate the relevant areas of Ramsgate for those unfamiliar with the area, titled “Fishing”, “Marina”, “Park”, “Play” and “Sea”.
