Clipper Ships

A well presented audio documentary telling the story of the great tea clipper sailing ships of the late 1800s, and their Scottish captains and owners. Much of the piece is based around an interview with Howard Murphy, who is an acknowledged expert in this field, with many enthusiastic tales to tell. Sailing roots in Fife and the economic expansion of the time are discussed, alongside an account of the famous clipper ship race between the ‘Ariel’ and the ‘Taeping’ in the 1860s, said to have captured public imagination all over the United Kingdom. An informative piece, with interesting details, anecdotes and stories. This audio recording lasts 48 minutes and 48 seconds.
