Catching The Light : Catching The Light Promo & Boy of Science

A short video trailer for the ‘Catching the Light’ project; supported by Somerset Film and Video, open to all, with the aim of encouraging people to write, shoot and edit their own one-minute film. Providing for many their first opportunity to work with sound & moving images, the resultant work was displayed on monitors in public places within their local areas. The films made could be documentary, animation, drama, personal statement, video diary, protest, musical or abstract with the only proviso being that the finished piece was sixty seconds long. Accompanying this trailer is the first of these one-minute films, ‘Boy of Science’. This comic short is about a young boy’s aspirations to become a scientist, and his efforts to follow his dream. Contrasting the young boy’s voiceover with the reminiscences of a grown man, this piece is a witty, clever and well-made film, and is a good example of what can be achieved with a minute of film. Many of the other 1-minute films made as part of the ‘Catching The Light’ are also featured on The Showcase, including a version of ‘Boy of Science’ which includes subtitles. This video lasts 2 minutes and 36 seconds.
