Space, Sewers and Beyond : Granny At Face Value |
|
| The “Space, Sewers and Beyond” collection of short films, were all made by young people aged between 14-19, who are learning disabled or hearing-impaired. “Massive Message Productions” engaged young people with some creative practitioners to work together to incorporate disability access into production values, processes and product. The aim of the project was not only to give the young people access to filmmaking, but also to involve artists and filmmakers who had not worked with learning disabled or hearing-impaired young people before. A DVD was produced, with many of the films including subtitles, audio description and sign interpretation. All these alternate versions of the films can also be found on ‘The Showcase’ website, along with a short video of credits of all involved in “Space, Sewers and Beyond”. This short animated film employs both computer animation and stop-motion techniques to tell the story of an alien meeting and falling in love with an old lady. The odd couple go for walks in the park and share wine in the lady’s flat. The alien falls for her, but when she turns up for a rendezvous having had plastic surgery to make herself appear younger, the alien is repulsed and leaves in his spaceship. The animation is also available to view on The Showcase with subtitles, audio description and British Sign Language. This video recording last 5 minutes and 23 seconds |
