Space, Sewers and Beyond : Hello, We Are Aliens (Audio Described) |
|
| The “Space, Sewers and Beyond” collection of short films, were all made by young people aged between 14-19, who are learning disabled or hearing-impaired. “Massive Message Productions” engaged young people with some creative practitioners to work together to incorporate disability access into production values, processes and product. The aim of the project was not only to give the young people access to filmmaking, but also to involve artists and filmmakers who had not worked with learning disabled or hearing-impaired young people before. A DVD was produced, with many of the films including subtitles, audio description and sign interpretation. All these alternate versions of the films can also be found on ‘The Showcase’ website, along with a short video of credits of all involved in “Space, Sewers and Beyond”. This short animated film is about a group of aliens, who crash land their spaceship and arrive at an old lady’s birthday party, in her home. The people at the party think the aliens are humans wearing costumes but confusion arises and forces them to flee. This version of the animation includes audio description; it is also available on The Showcase with subtitles, without subtitles and with British Sign Language. This video recording lasts 7 minutes and 56 seconds. |
