Space, Sewers and Beyond : Down The Plughole |
|
| The “Space, Sewers and Beyond” collection of short films, were all made by young people aged between 14-19, who are learning disabled or hearing-impaired. “Massive Message Productions” engaged young people with some creative practitioners to work together to incorporate disability access into production values, processes and product. The aim of the project was not only to give the young people access to filmmaking, but also to involve artists and filmmakers who had not worked with learning disabled or hearing-impaired young people before. A DVD was produced, with many of the films including subtitles, audio description and sign interpretation. All these alternate versions of the films can also be found on ‘The Showcase’ website, along with a short video of credits of all involved in “Space, Sewers and Beyond”. This short film is well made and an entertaining animated film, which uses a wide variety of animation techniques. The film takes us on a journey with a man who, fed up of washing dishes, is sucked down the plughole where he sees all kinds of fantastical things along the way. Amongst the floating debris he meets his friends, a rat, a piano, a mermaid, a crocodile and a shark before being whisked away to a fantastic fairground. There is also a trailer for this film available on The Showcase, and another version of the film itself with an audio description. This video recording lasts 6 minutes and 54 seconds. |
