| This video piece documents the experiences of Glaswegians Brian Baistow and Tommy Cannon, who have had no sight from birth, by looking at how they travel around their home city using touch, sound and smell. The subjects talk about their perceptions of architecture and sculpture, giving an interesting and illustrative insight into a different view of Glasgow. The piece also looks at elements of design and examines alternatives to take into account the visually impaired, such as sculptures placed at ground level so they can be used to identify locations within a city. The video was commissioned by the Glasgow 1999 Year of Architecture and Design and has won awards at Disability Media Festivals in Berkeley, USA and Helsinki, Finland. It also won 1st prize in the documentary category and the overall prize at the ‘Real to Reel Film Festival 2000’ at the Glasgow Film Theatre. This video recording lasts 9 minutes and 39 seconds. |
