Stupendoscope

A video programme in which a group of young people experience the magic of early cinema by recreating classic scenes from some of the first movies, using modern visual effects and stop frame animation techniques. In the piece, a group of modern children chance upon an old Zoetrope moving-image machine and are magically transported back in time. They experience events from the early days of moving picture shows, including joining in the panic when a cinema audience first sees footage of a train on the big screen! The piece is well made and demonstrates many of the techniques of early filmmaking in a fun setting, with strong attention to camera angles and lighting and would be a useful resource in exciting and inspiring a future generation of potential movie makers. This video recording lasts 7 minutes and 46 seconds.
