Steam and Fire

A radio story of the first official fire engine to arrive at St. Andrews, the home of golf. The description of the early horse-drawn, steam-powered fire engine evokes another age, throwing light on many aspects of local, social and industrial life in the early 20th century. Packed with facts and figures, it includes details of the St. Andrews railway station of the North British Railway. A fascinating insight into the importance of steam power in 1901 - 1902. The programme lasts for 10 minutes and 16 seconds.
